Still-Life in Moonlight

2016. Acrylic & tempera on cardboard. 30″ x 40″ (76.2 cm. x 101.6 cm.)

I use the “forbidden”  for Impressionists black to express the metaphysics of the moment of the moonlight night. I deliberately use the uncharacteristic for myself cold-gray scale for expressing beyond the naturalness of sensation, lightness and oriental poetry. A magnificent Flemish bouquet in a massive Renaissance vase consisting of a head with a multitude of faces, an empty glass and a cone of a pretty magical coloring. It is painted in an ironic manner to remind that all is just an illusion. The textures created by “time” only add the layers of meanings.
